This ongoing series is created by picking 3 words randomly (using Dipicture), and conceptualising an image with a story based on it, within a Malaysian context or setting. The process results in often unexpected visuals, with intriguing narratives that I intend to explore further.

Geng Durian

Words: DURIAN + MAT + GANGSTER

Don’t mess with Geng Durian, the biggest, baddest, and most pungent group to take over the streets of Georgetown. Dee-24, Warga Emas, Chaplang King, Ah Boss, and Mat Durian bonded over their love of the tropical fruit, mayhem, and general badassery. They’ve been unstoppable ever since.

Enlightenment

Words: LIGHT + RULER + MOUNTAIN

Legend has it that if a traveller comes bearing a light for the princess of the seven peaks, she will grant them one wish. The puteri has never cared much for this legend or the legions of men who wish for her to be their bride. On a good day, she eats flames and sends them away despite their "But I'm a nice guy-" protestations.

Linghua Franca

Words: SARONG + SCIENTIST + SPIRIT

Adriana is a researcher by day, and a spirit speaker by night. With the help of Linghua, a language spirit who resides in the patterns printed on her sarong, she tracks down communities of otherworldly beings residing in her town, and seeks to understand them.

FLY KITE!

Upon arriving, the weary migrants head to the bustling pasar, where they are welcomed with fragrant garlands and their first taste of their new home.

Smashing Sidekicks

Words: HIJABSTER + COCONUT + TIGER

Sofeyah wanted a cool drink, and she wasn’t going to let the semantics of the ‘No Pets Allowed’ sign or the screaming crowds of people stop her.
